< BEŠBALIC

Bešbalic [bɛʃ ˈbɑ lik] is a kingdom on the middle Eärdur river, just up the river from Benécia. It first drifted out of the rule of Caďinas by 2155, under the name of Kenand (later Kinan), but was overrun by Somoyi and Naviu barbarians in the 24th century. The modern state derives its name from one of the Naviu tribes, the Bešbalicu, who occupied Ctesifon in 2435 under their king Ädurunz. Eventually, they were driven back out of the area around Ctesifon up the Eärdur to the area where modern Bešbalic lies, only to fall under Gelyet rule in the 2500s.

By the time Caďinas reconquered the area, the Beshbalicu had intermarried with the local Caďinorian-speaking population and adopted their language, but continued to call themselves by their old name. Thus was the modern nation formed, although they would not be independent for some time due to its location in territory exposed to several different barbarian tribes. It finally emerged as an independent country in the early 2900s.

Bešbalic has a relatively large Eleďe population, although it does not quite form a majority as it does in neighboring Benécia. The Benécians tend to look upon the Bešbalicu as uncouth and uncivilized; the Bešbalicu for their part tend to blame the country's precarious location at the crossroads between Somoyi, Caďinorian, and Naviu nationalities for the poor shape of the country's economy.

The Bešbalicue language is related most closely to Benécian and somewhat less closely to Verdurian.
