Bekkai

The Bekkayin civilization is located in the tropical zone of Ereláe, north of the Zone of Fire. Bekkai was originally settled by the Nanese, evidently when a single ship crossed the Zone while it was in one of its latent or weaker periods. Since then, the descendants have multiplied and spread along the entire thin coastal area, creating a number of small polities called the Bekkayin States.

Racially, like the Nanese, the Bekkayin are Telisî, speaking Western languages. It is unknown how far Bekkayin languages have diverged from Nanese.

The Bekkayin are isolated from their cousins south of the doldrums, but they have put their navigation skills to use in their new hemisphere, settling many islands between their narrow coastal homeland and Curym across the ocean to the northwest, even settling on the coast south of Irés and intermixing with the Curymise populations there (as surmised by the dark reddish color of their skin). To the northeast, meanwhile, is the continent of Lebiscuri, with which they have apparently had less contact, being in the wrong direction relative to the trade winds.
