Boďomor Kušďey
From Almeopedia
Boďomor Kušďey [bo ˈðo mor ˈquʃ ðɛj] was a king of Verduria; as he usurped the throne, his reign and the generation of warlordism after it is known as the Usurpation of 3128 (so velgintro zonei 3128).
He was born in 3079, second son of an hipcont in Šerian. He joined the Army and rose quickly; Ažerey 1e fought a number of wars attempting to retain his predecessors’ great conquests, and usually did very badly— but that meant that there was a good deal of turnover as one general after another failed, and in such times someone has to do better, or fail less, than the rest, and that someone was Kušďey. He was a general by the age of 28, in 3107.
In 3113 he was approached by Acuyo, Ažerey’s younger son: could he not depose his brother Zol and place Acuyo on the throne, of course in return for great reward? Kušďey agreed, and occupied the palace, managing to effect the coup with little violence. Acuyo was a capricious and tyrannical king, but he kept his word to Kušďey, naming him supreme general and giving him a noble title.
Acuyo decided to take on a military role himself— taking back Kušďey’s title. He mounted several campaigns against rebellious provinces; he insisted on taking charge of operations himself, but blamed his generals when they failed. The cost and incompetence of these campaigns started to rile up the nobles, and Acuyo was reportedly about to fire Kušďey. Kušďey didn’t hesitate: he marched on the palace once again, had both Acuyo and Zol killed, and declared himself king.
The first coup had been considered a regrettable dynastic affair; this was a usurpation, and it was widely opposed. Many nobles and army garrisons refused to recognize the new monarch. He did his best to quash the rebellions, though he ignored some of the further ones, such as Zelm.
He was still occupied in this pacification campaign when he died of a stroke, in 3131. He had no heir (even if people would have accepted one), and there was no great enthusiasm for finding a remote Prežeon relative; the country dissolved into provinces or lesser regions, with warlords attempting to take control of as much territory as they could. It was not till 3142 till authority was restored under Caloton, duke of Pelym.
