Caďin
From Almeopedia
The Caďin [ˈka ðin] or Caďinorian party (fako caďin) is one of the two main factions in the Verdurian Esčambra.
In the early years of queen Elena's expanded Esčambra, opposition was fragmented between the Drukî dalui or King’s Friends (conservative nobles), the fako Enäronei or Enäron Party (pagan priests and their followers), and the Cumonora Mažulië or Towns League (provincial bourgeois oriented toward trade with Eretald). It was the achievement of Dambes surcont Aodo to meld these groups into a single party. Once leader of the Drukî dalui, he resigned this position in 3280 as a show of lack of personal ambition; this allowed him to negotiate a merger without it seeming like a takeover by his own party. It wasn't till it was clear that Elena was gearing up for a third war with Kebri, however, that the other two parties agreed (3283). Aodo became prime minister in 3302 during the disappearance of queen Andrea, and had the satisfaction of seeing his protege Mëranac cont Abolineron named king; he died the next year.
The party's chief support has largely been those opposed to the overall direction of Verduria toward maritime trade, overseas colonization, industry, and religious tolerance.
- Pagans in general
- A strong majority of the nobility
- Rural as opposed to urban areas (and thus traditional agriculture as a source of wealth rather than manufacturing)
- The southern provinces
The party governed for most of the Abolineron dynasty; the parliamentary leaders were overshadowed by Mëranac during his reign, but the very capable Tihom Berg did much to keep the country running during the dynastic quarrels of Mëranac's successors. The party also held power through most of Pelerin's reign. It held power briefly once under Vlaran, from 3438 to 3442 under Nežnes šoh so Řuk, and under Alric from 3467 to 3470 under Kolcör Belgoro— who was executed for his role in the Barons’ Rebellion.
The Caďin party currently holds 265 seats, the largest number of any party; but the Navirora and Ženië parties govern as a coalition. The present leader is Žuliosu surcont Curesi, of the powerful Aržentey family. His major issue is the fragmentation of southern Eretald, an invitation to barbarian or Dhekhnami adventurism-- why seek to take over poor Lácatur when Krasnaya is still an unsightly salient into Verduria's borders, and union with Ctésifon could be pursued?
