Caizura [ka i ˈzu ra] is a kingdom (and with Lebcaizura, a region) in eastern Eretald. The Caizurans were at first a nomadic people, a division of the Coruo living in the Ctelm mountains and surrounding plains south of Sarnáe. The Dhekhnami pushed them across the mountains around 3120, whereupon they invaded the southeastern Plain. A portion of them wandered farther north, conquering the upper Adel and establishing the kingdom of Caizura (3327-9; for the rest, see Kešvare).
The kingdom (naraz, cognate to Cuêzi narras) divided in 3440.
- The western half, Lebcaizura, is largely agricultural and a good deal more Caďinorized, even largely retaining Caďinorian paganism. Its capital is Kalomei on the Adel; other major towns are Turnovo and Priština.
- The eastern half, still called Caizura, is still mostly pastoral and Caizu-speaking; its capital is Neuor. It retains its version of traditional Coruo religion: worship of a binary god under the male aspect of Ileden and the female aspect of Oloena (cognate to Cuêzi Eīledan, Ulōne), combined with devotion to an array of heroic ancestors.
The towndwellers tend to be Verdurian-speaking (their dialect is close to Viminian), and handle the kingdoms’ trade, manufactures, and diplomacy. Others displaced by the Caizuran invasions fled to neighboring lands, where— known perhaps unfairly as caizurî, ‘Caizurans’— they are known for scams and revanchist plots.
To the east of Caizura is a mountainous area, whose most prominent feature is the deep canyons of the upper Serea (where the ancient classic In the land of Babblers is set). This area is largely inhabited by Caizu, but doesn’t answer to the king of Caizura.
Neighbors: Verduria (to N), Vimínia (to SW), Melináe (to S), Dhekhnam (to E)
Etymology: Caizura is cognate to Cuezaîe, Karazi, Curiya; Lebcaizura means ‘new Caizura’.
