Dnetic
From Almeopedia
Dnetic ['dnɛt ɨk] is a family of languages native to Arcél and spoken in Fananak. Known languages are polysynthetic and VSO, making use of both prefixes and suffixes. They have long shared Fananak with Itsenic and Kleʔmet', leading to widescale borrowing, such that deeper relationships are hard to discern, but many have speculated that the family is remotely related to Itsenic.
Phonologically, the family is notable for preaspirated stops and long vowels.
The family is divided into two branches:
- West Dnetic, whose homeland was the Tsihsip river valley; the best known member is Žiwdonag, spoken by the natives first encountered by the Tžuro colonists.
- East Dnetic, whose homeland stretched from the Tsyeʔ to the upper Itseʔ. Present-day members include Ōkmisan and Pōhsenag. The people have long been under Uyram influence, to the point of being ruled by kings (pūdamni), though they retain a shamanic religion.
