The Eleďe [ɛ ˈlɛ ðɛ] dynasty ruled Verduria for just sixty years, starting in 3241, but transformed the country. The first king, Tomao, spearheaded the rebellion against the dictatorship of the wizard Utu-On. Under Eleďe rule Verduria experienced a cultural and technological renaissance, fought three wars with Kebri to reestablish its status as the leading power of Eretald, and vastly expanded its trading network. Caďinorian paganism was disestablished, in favor of religious freedom, while Queen Elena’s reform recreated the Esčambra, the Verdurian parliament, making it a much more representative body.
The dynasty remains controversial, because of the strong Eleďe faith of its monarchs. Eleďi idolize the dynasty, their one period of rule in Verdurian history; the disappearance of the final Queen, Andrea, has even been mythologized, and Eleďi often believe that Andrea will return to reclaim the monarchy and usher in a golden age. Pagans are more ambivalent, resenting the eclipse of traditional sources of power— aristocrats and pagan clerics; Mëranac 1e’s estimation of Tomao as samsrame (shameless, a scoundrel) is widely repeated. Nonetheless they cannot deny the enormous achievements of his era.
Strictly speaking the dynasty should have been named Arostrana after Tomao's title, and during his reign this was the practice. But it was soon informally called Eleďe, and this became universal and even official.
