Elkarinor [ɛl ˈkɑ ri nor] is the name of the mountain kingdom of the elcari who live in the Elkarin Mountains just west of the Caďinorian plain. The name is from Barakhinei, as the nearest humans speak that language; the elcari themselves call their kingdom Khatelyên after their capital city. Elcari dislike human hierachies, and their society is lacking in government by human standards. The role of the king (tely) is largely ceremonial, except in wartime. Council meetings (ggêj) are effectively the law in Elkarinor.
The elcari have lived in that area for thousands of years, and for the most part have gotten along well enough with their human neighbors. To their immediate west, however, is a concentration of múrtani, their historical enemies, which they call nmurthankhaj -- which may be rendered most accurately in English as "wretched enemies of the community" (or, more long-windedly, "those who deny elcarin solidarity and are ugly too").
Neighbors: Barakhún (some ways to E), Rhânor (to S), múrtani lands (some ways to W), Western Wild (to N).
