Human races
From Almeopedia
The map below shows the human races of Almea, with the characteristic skin color in each region. (White areas are deserts, or settled by other Thinking Kinds.)
There is more color variation on Almea than Earth, because Almean humans have three types of melanin rather than two. One produces dark brown coloration (the Melanke color is its pure form); one is more reddish orange; and one is bluish. The wide variety of Almean skin colors derives from combinations of these.
The classification and the names are Verdurian:
- Taëse ‘ours’, the race Verdurians and all Easterners belong to, as well as the Dhekhnami, Qaraus, and Xurnese
- Telise ‘Westerners’, including the Somoyi-Meťelyi, and the people of the Rau jungle, Nan, Luduyn, and Téllinor
- Kibruise, from Caď. ‘copper’, referring to the Belesao and the Linaminče peoples of Arcél
- Adurise, from Caď. ‘blue’, referring to the Uytainese and other peoples of south Arcél
- Melanke, from Caď. ‘black’, comprising the people of Kereminth, Neinuoi, and eastern Arcél
- Curymise, the people of Curym
- Kaltenise, from Kalténia, the people of Lebiscuri
- Retnanise ‘far-northerners’, the people of Palthuknen, though sometimes these are classified as Curymise
