Icëlana

Icëlana (3278-3349) [i ˈkjɛ la na] was the second monarch of the Abolineron dynasty, daughter of Mëranac 1e. Her reign was marked by internecine strife between her supporters and those of Ažerey 2e, her nephew and rival claimant to the sash.
Born during the reign of Eleďe Queen Elena, Icëlana was merely the daughter of a another pagan cont in Verduria province. In 3301 she married a noble’s son, Uevlo Bordëy.
Even after her father was selected as king, it was assumed that he would be succeeded by her brother Caloton. Things changed when Caloton died in 3314; Mëranac neglected to designate his heir, setting the stage for dynastic dispute when he died unexpectedly in 3316. Though Icëlana was chosen to be Queen by the Esčambra, most noble families (including the Abolinerons) would have preferred Caloton's son Ažerey, who was only a teenager. In 3319 the pro-Ažerey faction (led by Mëranac's brother Bómedrac) gained power in the Esčambra, and voted to depose Icëlana in favor of her nephew. Strictly speaking, this was illegal, but the Palace Guard was stocked with Bómedrac's agents and thus was happy to imprison the Queen.
In 3324 Icëlana escaped, and began raising support to restore herself to the throne. Though eschewing outright insurrection, she hired armed gangs to harass agents of Ažerey, operating via kidnappings, vote fraud and the occasional assassination. When Bómedrac collapsed at a state dinner in 3327 under suspicious circumstances his faction was effectively weakened, allowing Icëlana's supporters to regain power and restore her the next year.
Seven years later Ažerey again removed Icëlana, exiling her to Šerian province; moreover, he kept her son Zerderot hostage in the Palace. When she finally died in 3349, it was hoped that the unrest was over. Even after her death, however, Icëlana's descendants maintained her claim. In 3371 her granddaughter, Miďë, usurped the sash from Mëranac 2e for three years, until her own assassination in 3374.
