Mažtan-lagana

The Mažtan-lagana [maʒ tan la ˈga na] is the government campus in the center of Verduria city, and of the borough (kešana) it is in. It is also the oldest settled area of the city, dating back to the founding of the city as Arénica in the 1200s; the wizard-king Utu razed the area in order to build a new palace amid extensive parkland.
The major structures are these:
- In the north, the Mažtansäte or City Hall. This was Utu's palace; when the Dalušeira was built in Elena's time, it became the seat of government for the city and the residence of the mayor (řivo).
- In the west, overlooking the Eärdur, the Dalušeira or King's Palace. The palace was begun by Tomao and finished by Elena; it was expanded by Mëranac 1e to have a frontage on the Lagana Rafát (the high court's square), and a small palace remaining from Caďinorian times, overlooking the river, was incorporated into the structure by Pelerin.
- The Esčambra building, just east of the Dalušeira, where Verduria's parliament meets. In Utu's day it was the Archives of Magic, a library and laboratory; it was reconstructed to serve the Esčambra in Tomao's reign.
- To the east of the central square, the Mažtan-Kal or City Forum; the building was created as a public market, and given to the Kal by Estdorot in 3045. The facade was originally oriented eastward; a new western facade, facing the park, was built by Ažerey 2e.
Utu's park was known as the Niëma Šeire (Palace Park), or (in private) the Niëma Šrayomei (Wizard's Park). Elena created the central plaza, the Mažtan-lagana itself, and it gave its name to both the park (the Niëma Mažtan-lagana) and to the borough.
A fringe of buildings to the east of the campus itself are part of the kešana rather than the Scafiora, including the Central Agora and the headquarters of the Verdurian Navy. Most of the government buildings along the Prosia Bolyášë, south of the park, are also technically part of the borough rather than Išira.
Etymology: ‘city-square'.
Someday I have to update that map... till I do you can see that the old word for lagana was plaz.
Notable residents
- Alric and, of course, all the previous Verdurian kings.
