Meťaiu is the name of a kingdom of the Monkhayic peoples, founded in -1150, with its capital at Aránicer. According to the Caďinorians, its first king was Dobauron, but we have no native tradition (or etymology) for this.
The Cuzeians conquered it in -375 and made it the capital of their kingdom of Metayu. According to the Count of Years, the last king of Meťaiu was Cumixāugo, very likely from Kumikhawigo ‘many-virtues’, and he foolishly lost his realm by taking his garrison out of Aránicer, where it was routed by the far larger Cuzeian army.
It has been speculated that the southern Cadhinorians, the Araniceri, adopted the Methaiun gods as the Cadhinorian "First Pantheon" is an echo of Meťaiun religion; the Cadhinorian belief that Lake Como was the dwelling of the gods derives from the Meťaiun.
Etymology: The reconstructed Meťaiun is Meťaiγo; the γ was evidently lost in the south, leading to Caď. Meťaiu, Cuêzi Metayu. The me- is an honorific; the root is of unknown meaning. The word also underlies Metailō, the Cuêzi name for the Meťaiun people as a whole.
