Old Bekkayin
From Almeopedia
Old Bekkayin [bɛk ˈkaj ɪn] is a putative language family found in the Bekkai, the northern coast of Ereláe above the Zone of Fire. Speakers of Old Bekkayin languages once occupied this whole zone, but the Western languages, an outgrowth of Nanese culture, now occupy the eastern fringe.
Little is known of the Old Bekkayin languages; no grammars are available, and in fact our largest wordlists come from aboriginal names in K'aitan, remnants of an otherwise unknown tongue.
The kingdoms of Mokáš and Skom speak Old Bekkayin languages; of the tribes to the west the best known are the Ɓoɲó and the Mefítes. The relationship between these languages is assumed but not yet demonstrated. Some have proposed a relationship with Interior Vipodoȟ largely based on geographical proximity (and the fact that final stress is common in both).
They are not to be confused with the Bekkayin languages, that is, the Western subfamily spoken in the Bekkai. Bekkai is properly a Bekkayin word (‘north of the Zone of Fire’) and thus refers to the settlers from the Nanese region. The aborigines or Old Bekkayin do not have any identify as a race or people rather than through individual tribes. An alternative name from Omeguese is Laumain, but this is simply Omeguese for ‘the former people’.
