Peleu [pɛ ˈlɛ u] is a tributary of the Eärdur, rising in the wilds of Kalimantan and flowing north till it meets the great river at Kerban, in Hroth. It's also the name of a kingdom which occupies the southern three quarters of the river valley. It's also the name of a bright star in the constellation of the Hat.

The region formed a part of Cuzei, but was even then a backwater; it was an undistinguished part of Eärdur province in the Caďinorian empire and then went downhill, batted back and forth between the barbarians and the Caďinorians during the Dark Years. During the Prežeon dynasty it was ruled by Verduria.

It's said to be run by bortomî, bandits, and this is not mere rhetoric— the entire kingdom is essentially the property of an organized gang, the Gongroi (ultimately from Cuêzi gōnicoro 'united'). Even the king's title is stolen; about two centuries ago Namašo Gongro deposed the last legitimate king and took his place. He moved the capital from Curisöna to Celebes, closer to the gang's traditional base of operation deep in the forest of Kalimantan.

The Gongroi do not bother with traditional statecraft— laws, roads, courts, coinage, or treaties; their only concern is to regularly milk the peasants and townspeople for whatever they can. The only service they provide is to keep other gangs from muscling into the territory. The only people reasonably safe from their exactions are nobles with their own men at arms, and relatives; as a result of the latter fact, naturally, Gongro wives are highly valued and fetch an enormous bride price.

In their early years in power they raided nearby states and built great mansions in Celebes with the proceeds; in 3345 Ažerey 2e of Verduria mounted a punitive raid against Peleu, destroying many of these palaces; since then the Gongroi have largely restrained their depradations to their own citizens, though sometimes they have raided their weaker southwestern neighbors.

The currency section of the chart gives the common local names for coins; the kingdom does not mint coins of its own, but accepts any foreign coins. The absence of currency conversion charges is a minor incitement to doing business in Peleu. Verdurian businessmen are not hassled by the Gongroi; the town of Aria just inside the border is therefore a center for quick conversion of coins from one nearby currency to another.
