Stripcorn is a low leafy plant bearing a cluster of five long, hard, knobby grains. The grains are removed and ground together with sand to remove the husk. The debris is washed away, and the grains are soaked, rinsed, and steamed. They can be eaten that way, or further cooked to form a glutinous mass which is made into balls or thin sheets. Fermented, it makes an alcoholic drink the Lé call bǎusa (reminiscent of a nutty ale).
