Talk:Tžuro

From Almeopedia

The lack of this article has bothered me for some time, so I've made this page... However, it is rather a broad topic- I concentrated very much on history, and social structure was relegated to one passage at the beginning and there's nothing on their language. Almost certainly there is too much here, and there's a bit of guesswork in places so it probably really needs to be gone through carefully.. Sorry about that

Incidentally, though, what's the difference between a tej and a kingdom (a "josu"?).. Are Teje empires or theocratic states like Caliphates?... If the latter then who is in charge of the Jippirasti faith in kingdoms?

Furius

Good work; I'll look it over. I haven't worked out Tžuro political philosophy yet, but a tej is roughly an empire, though since Jippirasti enjoins the unity of all believers it's tied up with religious claims as well. To the Tžuro the whole idea is hopelessly old-fashioned, but the Lenani still believe in it. Zompist 11:42, 9 December 2006 (PST)

Could we see IPA for the word "Tzhuro"? Al-Bargit 00:42, 24 March 2007 (PST)

Hmm... I find it quite difficult to say "tʒ" right next to each other, without inserting an epenthetic vowel... in my own case, it wants to turn into "tʃ", or (less likely) "dʒ". Would the Tžuro themselves have this difficulty? BGMan 14:13, 13 August 2007 (PDT)
It's actually pretty close to English <j>. Tžuro has a three-way contrast between j, tž, č (initially), which differ in voicing offset time (VOT). English voiced consonants have a rather late VOT (in contrast to French, for instance). Tžuro <j>, which has a very early VOT, would sound almost like [ndž] to us. Zompist 15:57, 13 August 2007 (PDT)
