Uytai is the leading nation of Arcél's southern, temperate zone. The heart of the nation is the Homtso-Hurtso river system. Due to Arcél's central mountain range surrounding the large plain in Uytai's sphere of influence, its people are reliant on irrigation. The most famous landmark in Uytai, and indeed the whole south of Arcél, is the mighty Festival House. The Uytain speak an Uyseʔic language related to the languages of Phoytai and Hlüim
The Uytain have developed a strong trading relationship with Verduria, sending exotic goods such as Potatoes to Eretald. However, the dominating good in this relationship is tea (Uytain tsai), only grown in the highlands of northern Uytai, and now the southern Hemisphere's favourite drink. Kebri, Verduria's major competitor, has secured trading rights with Belesao in the Tropical zone, whose ports are infact closer to the tea growing region and which already imports goods such as cotton from the area.
The Uytai Merchant Marine is the dominant sea power in the area, with ships partrolling as far away as Kereminth and the Island Sea. However, until the arrival of the Tžuro and the foundation of Fananak, the Merchant Marine had not thought that there was anything across the Xurnese Sea. Uytai has recently purchased some Verdurian ships, but only in order to take them apart and learn how they are constructed, hoping to secure Uytai's place as a dominant nation in a world currently lorded over by the nations of Eretald.
