(Redirected from Vlerë (queen))

Vlerë [vlɛ ˈrjɛ] is the name of the goddess of love in Caďinorian paganism, and a common given name in Eretald.

Etymology: Caď. Veharies, related to vehaťa 'love'; Ver. Vlerë (from a dialectal variant Velaries), Bar. Feorê, Ismaîn Veŕi.

Goddess of Love

The mere sight of Vlerë was said to drive men mad; indeed, when a man has fallen madly in love, it's said that "he has seen Vlerë." She is depicted as a sweet and gentle maiden, with short black hair, prone to laughter and mischief, but caring and understanding with all. She is the special protector of maidens, and when one is harmed, she is said to strap on bow and arrow and hunt the offender to his death. Her cult is very strong, particularly in the South; Zeir is also specially dedicated to her.

Her attendants are Suléa and Zula (Youth and Joy). Romantic love among humans is generally the work of the boy-god Fifel; or occasionally his demented sister Tolura, goddess of unnatural acts.

The planet Vlerëi is named after her (in Verdurian), and the fourth month of the year.

There is a pagan festival devoted to her, the Vleryana, held on 17 cuéndimar.

Queen of Verduria

Vlerë was a Queen of Verduria, the third and last of the Vočnor Dynasty. She was born in 3369, daughter of Pelerin, who became king when she was 7. In 3393 she married a prince of Ctésifon, Vurambes son of king Érefar. The couple alternated periods of residence in Žésifo and Verduria city, but spent an increasing amount of time apart.

Her brother Orest inherited the sash on the death of their father; but after just six months his customary instability had become outright lunacy, and the Esčambra replaced him with Vlerë in 3400.

Never a very confident person, and sickly to boot, Vlerë had no policies of her own, but allowed the government to be dominated by the very able Onvaďra Anëtey, the sannei Konselore elreë or prime minister.

She died of a lung infection in 3404, without heirs. (Her brother had none either.) The Esčambra passed a law giving Onvaďra oversight of the effort to choose a new monarch; she took advantage of this to name herself queen.
