The Vleteon [vlɛ ˈte on] dynasty is the current ruling family of Verduria; it has ruled for the last 60 years, since 3420. In general it has favored policies of commercial and industrial development, colonial expansion, and the slow reining in of the nobility.
On the death of Onvaďra 2ë, the Esčambra met to elect a new monarch— being careful first to arrest Onvaďra's son Getemil, whom she had named šoh i Kaino (Duke of Kaino), the traditional title of the crown prince. (He was formally divested of this title some weeks later, by the same High Court decision that ruled that Onvaďra had been both a usurper and the lawful queen.)
The main factions each advanced their own candidates and refused to budge; after two weeks of negotiating they settled on the colorless but popular Vlaran, baron of Amežna (some say because he was confused with his father Caiem, who had been active in the parliamentary opposition to Onvaďra).
He proved to be an able monarch, recovering Verdurian control over Célenor, Zelm, and Pérecaln. He also backed a controversial change to Esčambra rules, requiring nobles to live in Verduria city for at least a month a year in order to vote. There were procedural reasons for this— the legislature now met for long periods, and Esčambromî who did the hard work negotiating a bill resented nobles who flitted in briefly to derail their finely wrought compromises. On a deeper level, the change greatly strengthened the Navirora party (and thus the bourgeois, the navy, and the northern provinces).
He was succeeded by his son Alric. Early on Alric faced an actual revolt of southern nobles (3470), which was easily put down. (Before this Alric had let lapse his father's rules on nobles voting in the Esčambra, but afterward he enforced them more strongly than before.) Alric has left domestic affairs largely to his prime ministers (since 3477, Abend Monteneon), and concentrated on shoring up resistance to Dhekhnam; to further this, he has declared that the kingdom will not be expanded southward by force.
