What to see: Verduria city
From Almeopedia
Some of the touristic highlights of Verduria city:
- Prosia Hovard, Scafiora
- This street is the heart of the Scafiora district. The Scafiora is Verduria's port, and therefore has a good deal of legitimate business; when that's over, people come to Prosia Hovard for something less respectable. The ground floor is lined with nightclubs and drinking establishments; brothels are available off the side streets. As the Verdurian expression goes, if any sin can't be indulged on Hovard street, it isn't worth indulging. If you stay with the crowds and avoid obvious mistakes like showing where your purse is, you'll end up broke and headachey, but on your terms.
- The University of Verduria, Arin Island
- Founded in 2312 by the emperor Sörtoro, this is the leading academic institution of Eretald, and arguably of all Almea. Attend lectures if you can, or ogle the pretty co-eds while enjoying the sprawling campus, or explore the kicky Biško neighborhood just to the south, full of bookstores, cafés, and storefront theaters. Don't miss the Faculty of Magic, next to the Observatory, which sometimes offers demonstrations.
- Hall of the Sea Traders, Scafiora
- The busy center of a burgeoning sea power, the Hall is something between a financial marketplace and an exclusive club. It serves as a commercial association for merchants and shippers, but its chief product is deals. A sea expedition is a costly and complicated enterprise, requiring the cooperation of shipmasters, merchants, bankers, and insurers; they can all be rounded up here, and the transaction sealed over a fine meal. The main hall is dominated by a huge board which gives the destination, chief cargo, and last location of all known merchant ships.
- The Niëma Mëranac, Žeuro
- The immense park is a pleasant respite from the noises and smells of the city; but its chief attractions are the Estë Ďiecnáe (Great Racetrack), and the Lebe Lättom (New Arena). The races are not limited to horses, but include humans, elcari, camels, bulls, and exotic wild animals; the Arena features competitions of swordfighting, gymnastics, wrestling, and archery. It can also be flooded in order to allow swimming and boating competitions.
- The Medeon Museum, Nočii
- You could spent several days exploring this museum, devoted to the history of Eretald; since one can't easily mount archeological expeditions on Almea, the Medeon is often the only way to examine early pottery, statuary, and other arts from Meťaiun times onward. The museum faces the Lagana Navona, so a quick visit to Nëron Mihel, the city's Eleďe cathedral, is also recommended.
