Xengi
From Almeopedia
The Xengi [ˈsɛŋ gi] is the major river of Xengiman. It arises from the Ediri mountains in Sevisor, passes through Belšai, flows westward into Xurno, and then southward to the Xurnese Sea. It passes through three Xurnese provinces and most of Xurno's major cities:
- Rau Xengi lies between Pronel and Lake Van, and includes Širbika, Reyruni, and Lij.
- Šuzep, the middle Xengi, includes Curau, Yoki, Nogali, and Lozauš.
- Šiyku, the delta, is as populous as the other two provinces together; its cities include Inex (the capital), Lirau, Yeš, Etak, and Bidau.
The Xengi valley has been the homeland of three great civiizations: the Wede:i (the first urban, literate culture on Almea), Axunai, and Xurno. Its agriculture was originally based on oats; the Almean plant requires much moisture to germinate, which is provided by seasonal floods near the river, and by an extensive irrigation system farther away from it.
Etymology: Wede:i Akśim, honorific + ‘long’, Cuolese Akšũ; adapted into Ax. and X. as Xengi; Ṭeôši Zentš; Caď. Ctengis, Ver. Ženy.
